Business Analyst

Working in the IT Portfolio Management Office (PMO) the Business Analyst will ensure that business processes are designed and operated to promote efficient working practices that meet the organisation’s need.

About the role

  • Design improved business processes and create more efficient ways of operating by working with business process owners, providing guidance and challenge in the design activity, by:
  • Gathering requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis.
  • Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Proactively communicating and collaborating with external and internal customers to analyse information needs and functional requirements and deliver the following as needed: Functional requirements, Business Requirements Documents, Use Cases, Screen and Interface designs.
  • Maintaining a good knowledge of leading practice both inside and outside the sector, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency as a business.
  • Ensuring that business systems meet the critical needs of the organisation and no more. The Business Analyst may challenge requirements and will manage customer expectations accordingly.
  • Ensure that new processes align with related policies, the organisational strategy and the IT strategy.
  • Adhere to best practice process methodology such that designs can be readily translated into systems requirements.
  • Support the User Acceptance Testing and business transition work-streams from a process perspective.

About you

The successful applicant will have:

  • A degree (or demonstrable equivalent) in operations management or a related quantitative subject
  • BCS/ISEB Diploma in Business Analysis and/or equivalent qualification
  • Proven track record of working within successful business transformation programmes as a business analyst
  • Knowledge and experience of managing process change
  • Strong analytical skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
