Support Worker

If searching for a meaningful and richly rewarding role feels like it's becoming more of a crusade than a cakewalk, then stop feeling disheartened because at Dimensions, your long awaited job search is over! By becoming a Support Worker with us, not only will you have more personal fulfilment and job satisfaction - because you'll be able to make a positive impact, every day, in the lives of those with learning disabilities and autism - the icing on the cake is, you'll also enjoy: no costly, time-consuming commutes, no having to split your day visiting several different homes for 10-minutes at a time, plus you'll experience an enviable work-life balance, generous colleague benefits, on-going, fully-funded training, and so much more!

Meet "Charlie" and "Umi"

In Southdown, Bath, (BA2), we support two young gentlemen in their early thirties, "Charlie" and "Umi", to live their best lives - rich, fulfilling lives that they choose to live. Both of the people we support are very independent and require little to no personal care or mobility assistance, though, as one has epilepsy, you will always have to be prepared to follow protocol and provide support if/when seizures occur.

Both "Charlie" and "Umi" love going out; they enjoy attending clubs and day centres, going boxing, playing computer games and pool, and everything else that young people appreciate and take pleasure from, including banter!

How You'll Support "Charlie" and "Umi"

By respecting "Charlie" and "Umi's" individual wants and needs, and by working in close partnership with your new colleagues and "Charlie" and "Umi's" families, you'll be expected to:

  • Be actively and enthusiastically engaged in every aspect of their lives, day or night. You'll achieve this by being involved in their hobbies; accompanying them on days out and to appointments, supporting them with their finances, and encouraging them to try new things; achieve their aspirations, and most of all, feel happy, be healthy, and make great memories all the time, etc.
  • Respectfully provide prompting, personal care, and mobility assistance if/when required.
  • On night shifts, ensure that "keeping safe" checks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Help prepare healthy, nutritious meals.
  • Safeguard "Charlie" and "Umi" so that they always feel happy and comfortable, and that the environments they're in are always clean, sanitary and safe from risks.
  • Write and maintain records, i.e., observation reports, risk assessments, financial records, etc.

The Honest Bit

At Dimensions, we value candor; which is why we want to tell you that whilst being a support worker is a deeply fulfilling and meaningful role - a role that gives you purpose, and a true sense of accomplishment and satisfaction - it is a job that will, on occasion, push you to your emotional and physical limits. Bonding with people; sharing your life with them, and learning the true art of care, can be both a blessing and a bane. But, for those resilient and courageous enough to recognise that if something makes you feel nervous and asks you to push yourself in order to grow - then it's absolutely something worth doing - despite the possible challenges.

So, if you're sincere about starting a career in care or you're an experienced carer looking to work with a pioneering, award-winning organsiation who cares just as much about you as we do the people we support, don't let nerves hold you back from applying! We can - and will - support you in achieving your aspirations; we will help you live a better life too.
