About the role

  • Male Waking Night Support Worker
  • Full time / 37.5 hours per week
  • £13.45 per hour
  • Costessey, Norwich, NR5
  • Full UK manual driving licence.

This is a full time permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week on a waking night rota. Typical shifts are 9:00pm to 7:00am, with 3-4 shifts per week, including weekends.

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you'll be supporting four gentlemen who live together in Costessey, ensuring they remain safe, comfortable and well throughout the night. This is a lone-working role where you'll carry out regular wellbeing checks, provide support when needed, and respond to any overnight concerns.

While some of the gentlemen sleep independently, others may require reassurance, support with personal care, medication assistance, or help during periods of wakefulness. One gentleman can experience unsettled nights, so you'll need to be comfortable providing support and companionship throughout the night when required.

You'll also be responsible for completing household duties, including cleaning, laundry and ironing, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring a smooth handover to the day team.

Whilst this role is primarily focused on waking nights, it is not a waking night-only contract. We work as one team and, from time to time, you'll be expected to support and assist the day team by picking up daytime shifts where home needs require it.

When you join us, you won't move straight onto waking nights. You'll initially spend time working alongside the day team, completing your induction, mandatory training and getting to know the gentlemen, their routines, preferences and support needs. This provides a strong foundation and helps ensure you feel confident and well-prepared before transitioning to night support.

About you

We're looking for someone who is reliable, caring and able to work confidently on their own during waking night shifts. You'll be comfortable taking responsibility for the home overnight, while ensuring the people we support receive high-quality, person-centred support whenever it's needed. To be successful in this role, you'll:

  • Hold a full UK manual driving licence and be confident driving both manual and automatic vehicles.
  • Be able to work independently and make sound decisions whilst lone working.
  • Be flexible and willing to primarily work waking nights, as well as support the day team when required.
  • Have good communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Be comfortable supporting with personal care, medication, meal preparation and household tasks.
  • Be willing to complete training and work daytime shifts during your induction period before transitioning to waking nights.
  • Be proactive, organised and able to remain calm and patient in a variety of situations.

Previous experience in care or support work is welcome but not essential. We're much more interested in your values, attitude and willingness to learn, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.
