By Sarah Boobyer, Resourcer
I started working for Dimensions over six years ago.
My first role here was as a supported employment adviser. It was supporting people we support into employment and training opportunities at Discovery.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, I set up and delivered online job clubs and training for the people we supported. It was a role I relished, finding it very rewarding.
When my hearing loss progressed (I now have severed hearing loss and Tinnitus in both ears), I decided to take a new direction. I gained a home-based role within the Resourcing team – which I really did appreciate.
The chance to join Aspire came up for me in 2024.
I was at a point where I really wanted to progress, but had lost my confidence.
Aspire helped build my confidence back through mentoring and its workshops.
It really helped me explore what opportunities were available to me at Dimensions.
I worked with different teams, including Internal Comms, and wrote a story published on the Hub.
I joined a project helping write an award entry that led us to winning a national recruitment award.
I spoke at an online event sharing my experiences with a new cohort of Aspire participants.
I received the Sandra Burford award this year from the Aspire team. This was for showing our Dimensions values during our Aspire journey.
At this year’s Resourcing Awards, I received nominations for the Trailblazer award, winning the Growth Mindset award.
Thanks to Aspire – and support from my amazing Resourcing colleagues – I applied for a promotion within our team. And I was successful!
I now work as a Resourcer in the pre-offer Resourcing team. I am one of the first people that a job applicant will speak to.
It is my role to manage our job applicants and interview applicants for support worker roles. I support our busy hiring managers in the East region to recruit the very best support workers for the people we support.
I would thoroughly recommend Aspire to everyone looking to develop here at Dimensions and Discovery.
You have to put in the work. There are one-to-ones to attend with your tutor, workshops, and online learning to complete. But the rewards are worth it.
I’m very grateful to the Aspire team and my Resourcing colleagues for supporting me on what has been an incredible year for me. Thank you.
