“Love seeing small differences make big changes.” – Current Support Worker

Dimensions is proud to be recognised as a Great Place to Work for 7 years in a row.

About the role

We’re looking for a confident, warm and proactive Support Worker to join our team in SY5, supporting two young men in their 20s who have autism, learning disabilities, and Down syndrome.

They live together in a bungalow (no stairs) and lead busy, fulfilling lives filled with activities, social time and structured routines. Support is mostly 1:1 when out in the community, with shared support at home.

This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys building strong relationships, balancing energetic days out with calm, quiet time when needed.

Who you will be supportingGentleman 1

  • Uses limited words and Makaton to communicate
  • Very cheeky, friendly and social
  • Answers the door independently
  • Loves cinema trips, days out (including Sea Life), and being out and about

Gentleman 2

  • Well-travelled with family
  • Enjoys downtime and sometimes time apart from his housemate
  • Member of a local dance group
  • Loves Friday night discos
  • Enjoys structured routines and planned activities

Both are friendly, sociable and humorous, but can become over-stimulated, so recognising when they need calm, quiet time is essential.

Family involvement

Families are very involved and visit often. Building respectful, trusting relationships with them is an important part of the role.

What you will be doing

You’ll support both individuals to live confident, independent and happy lives, including:

  • Providing personal care where required
  • Preparing meals and supporting daily living tasks
  • Administering medication
  • Supporting communication using Makaton (training provided)
  • Encouraging independence and choice
  • Supporting community activities and day trips
  • Attending cinema trips, discos and social outings
  • Balancing active days with calm, quiet support
  • Building strong, positive relationships with both individuals and families

This role is ideal for someone confident, emotionally aware and able to adapt their approach throughout the day.

Shift patterns

Flexible shift patterns are available to suit the needs of the individuals:

  • 7:00am – 10:00pm
  • Sleep-in: 10:00pm – 7:00am (£50 paid to sleep)
  • Alternate weekend working
  • Shifts may occasionally finish earlier depending on planned activities

For full-time roles, expect 1–2 sleep-ins per week.

Rotas are provided in advance to support a healthy work–life balance.

About you

You’ll be a great fit if you are:

  • Confident, friendly and a strong communicator
  • Comfortable building relationships with individuals and families
  • Willing to learn Makaton
  • Patient and emotionally aware
  • Outgoing, but able to tone things down when calm time is needed
  • Someone with a good sense of humour
  • Proactive and reliable
  • A full UK manual driver

Experience is helpful but not essential — full training is provided.
