About the role

  • Stowmarket, Suffolk.
  • £12.43–£13.54 per hour, depending on the home you work in
  • Full UK driving licence essential.

We are looking for Relief Support Workers to provide flexible support across four supported living homes in Stowmarket. Three of the four homes provide support with behaviours of distress and complex needs, so this role is ideal for someone with prior experience in supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people, also experience working with individuals who may display behaviours of distress.

As a Relief Support Worker, you will be a vital part of the team, providing cover for colleague absences, additional support needs, or periods of increased demand. No two days will be the same, and flexibility is key — this is a zero-hours contract, allowing you to choose shifts that fit around your availability.

You will support people to live the life they choose by:

  • Using the Activate approach to help people learn new skills and make progress across key areas of their lives.
  • Encouraging independence and recognising every moment as an opportunity for growth.
  • Supporting with daily living tasks such as shopping, meal preparation, housework, and managing money.
  • Supporting people to access education, employment, leisure interests, holidays, and their local community.
  • Supporting with medication and personal care where required.
  • Maintaining accurate records using IT systems.
  • Working in partnership with families, colleagues, and external professionals.

A full UK driving licence is essential, as you will be required to travel between homes and support people with day-to-day travel arrangements.

About you

We are looking for people who genuinely share our values and can demonstrate them throughout the recruitment process. You will:

  • Have previous experience as a Support Worker or in a similar role.
  • Be confident supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs, including behaviours of distress.
  • Be able to communicate clearly, adapt your communication style, and actively listen.
  • Work well as part of a team while also using your initiative.
  • Be flexible and able to respond to changing support needs.
  • Be willing to complete all required training and use digital systems.

Experience will be explored and assessed throughout the interview process.
