About the role
This is a rewarding opportunity to join a bungalow supporting three gentlemen aged between 50 and 70. The home has a resident cat, so you’ll need to be comfortable working in an environment with pets. Two of the gentlemen have recently moved in, making this an exciting time to help shape routines, build trusting relationships, and support them to settle into their home.
The people we support have learning disabilities, autism, bipolar disorder, and mental health needs. At times, they may display behaviours of distress, which are primarily verbal. One gentleman may direct frustration towards his surroundings rather than others. Because of this, we are looking for someone experienced who can remain calm, patient, and consistent, using positive behaviour support approaches to reduce anxiety and promote wellbeing.
Life here is active and varied. The gentlemen enjoy getting out into the their community, whether that’s trips to the London Eye, theme parks, car boot sales, charity shops, or local walks, as well as stopping off at Greggs or going out for lunch. They also enjoy holidays, watching documentaries, bird watching and one gentleman is a particularly big ABBA fan.
Day-to-day support includes personal care (full support for two gentlemen), medication administration, and meal preparation, including adapting food where required. You’ll also support communication needs, including working with personalised Makaton-style approaches.
Shifts will include a mix of long days and shorter shifts, typically between 7:30am and 10:00pm, and you’ll need to be available to work across different patterns, including alternate weekends. A full UK driving licence is essential, as you’ll be supporting people to access the community using mobility vehicles.
We can offer 15 hours per week, but you must be fully flexible. Shifts are not fixed and may include different days or longer shifts depending on home needs.
