– Current Support Worker

If you're someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships, being active in your community and helping people live life to the fullest, this could be the perfect role for you.

About the role

We're looking for a patient, adaptable and enthusiastic Support Worker to join our team in Shrewsbury (SY5), supporting two gentlemen in their 20s with autism, Down syndrome and learning disabilities.

The gentlemen live together in a bungalow and lead busy, active lives. They enjoy getting out and about, spending time with family and taking part in activities that matter to them, while also valuing their own independence and downtime.

Their interests include:

  • Cinema trips and community outings
  • Day trips, including visits to attractions such as Sea Life Centres
  • Friday night discos
  • Dance groups and social activities
  • Travelling and exploring new places
  • Spending time with family and friends

One gentleman communicates using limited speech and Makaton, while both are friendly, sociable and enjoy getting to know the people who support them. They can become overstimulated at times, so recognising when they need quiet time and personal space is an important part of the role.

You'll provide person-centred support with daily routines, meal preparation, medication administration and accessing community activities, helping both individuals maintain their independence and achieve their goals.

Shifts are flexible around activities and include:

  • Day shifts between 7:00am – 10:00pm
  • Sleep-ins: 10:00pm – 7:00am (£50 paid to sleep)
  • Alternate weekends
  • 1-2 sleep-ins per week

About you

You'll be a great fit if you're:

  • A confident and positive communicator
  • Patient, observant and person-centred
  • Interested in learning Makaton
  • Able to balance being outgoing with knowing when people need space
  • Skilled at building relationships with families and professionals
  • Someone with a good sense of humour
  • Reliable, adaptable and willing to learn
  • A manual driver with a full UK driving licence

Experience is helpful but not essential — full training will be provided.

Rewards that make a difference

  • A competitive payrate with uplift for overtime you chose to work
  • Flexible shift patterns to suit your needs
  • 30 days paid Annual Leave (including public holidays – pro rata)
  • Opportunities for career progression
  • Supported ‘Learn to Drive’ scheme (up to 30 driving lessons, 1 theory/practical test - all paid for by us)
  • We offer a salary advance scheme where you can access up to 50% of the money you've earned before payday.
