About the role
As a Support Worker, you'll support up to 10 autistic people and people with learning disabilities and complex health needs who live in their own bungalows. The people we support are largely independent and value having staff around to provide encouragement, companionship and practical support that helps them live the lives they choose.
This is a varied role where you'll get to know each person's interests, routines and goals. You might be supporting someone to enjoy a trip to a local café, helping with shopping, accompanying them to appointments, assisting with meal preparation, providing medication support, or offering help with personal care when requested. Some individuals use wheelchairs and hoisting equipment, and you'll receive full training to support them safely and confidently.
The people we support enjoy simple things that make a big difference to their wellbeing, from gardening, watching films and spending time with pets, to enjoying days out, theatre trips and having someone to chat with over a coffee. We're looking for someone who is compassionate, positive and genuinely interested in helping people maintain their independence while being a valued part of their lives.
You'll work both as part of a team and independently, including some lone working, and must be able to work a flexible rota covering early shifts, late shifts, sleep-ins and weekends. In return, you'll join a supportive organisation where you'll receive excellent training, ongoing development and the opportunity to build a rewarding career while making a real difference every day.
About you
You don't need previous experience in social care to be successful in this role. What matters most is that you're a caring, positive and reliable person who enjoys building genuine relationships and supporting people to live independently.
We're looking for someone who is naturally compassionate, takes an interest in others and understands the importance of treating people with dignity, respect and kindness. You'll enjoy spending time with people, whether that's having a chat over a coffee, supporting someone with their daily routine, helping them pursue their interests, or simply being a friendly and dependable presence in their lives.
As this role involves supporting people both independently and as part of a wider team, you'll need to be confident, adaptable and able to use your initiative. You'll also be comfortable supporting with personal care when required, using manual handling equipment following training, and working a flexible rota that includes sleep-ins, evenings and weekends.
