Male Support Worker

Time for something NEW! Dimensions are recruiting Male Support Workers to join us on a part time basis, located in Bricket Wood, St Albans.

  • £13.06 per hour.
  • Contracts offered between 7.5 -22.5 hours per week.
  • Full UK driving licence and own car essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Dimensions UK as we recruit several experienced part time colleagues into our support team in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The successful applicant will be matched to one gentleman but should have the flexibility to support across 3 other gentlemen when needed. This supported living home in Bricket Wood is 10 minutes from Junction 22 of the M25, 15 minutes from Watford and 20 minutes from Hatfield and we also offer free parking on site!

Being a Support Worker requires a special kind of skill set. Day to day your focus will be providing support to adults who have learning disability and autism with high support needs. Previous experience in these areas would be beneficial. However, there may be other skills and experiences that make you suitable for the role. Here is what we are looking for:

  • You can develop, with our support, motivating and enabling skills – for example, you can set challenging goals and can assist a person you support in making informed choices.
  • You are willing to work with people who require additional support because of behaviour that is challenging.
  • You are able to communicate clearly, adapting what you say and how you say it so that each person can understand you.
  • You are able to work flexibly and to respond effectively to changes in workload and the needs of the people we support.
  • You can develop positive working relationships with all those involved with Dimensions – including those we support, families, carers, internal colleagues, and external agencies.
  • You can be open minded and have a flexible and adaptable attitude/personality.
  • You will have an ability and willingness to understand and manage behaviours of distress and have a range of de-escalation techniques.

It is essential that you have basic computer literacy, can complete e-learning, and can deal with Word documents and forms using a computer. We want you to develop professionally as a support worker. This means that you are expected to get involved and contribute to meetings, work towards gaining qualifications about your work, attend training courses and be willing to learn new things and ways of working.

Be prepared to work flexibly. This will include working alternative weekends, sleepins and bank holidays. Shift times are 7am-10pm with the opportunity for shorter shifts (7am-3pm/ 3pm-10pm). This will be discussed with you during the interview process, and you will be matched to the people we support.
