Support Worker – Person Centred Role Supporting a Passionate Runner and Community Volunteer

Location: Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
Hours: Part-time (24 or 30-hour contract available)
Driver with own car essential (automatic welcome)
Salary: £12.31 per hour.

We’re looking for someone friendly, reliable, and down-to-earth to support a brilliant young man, who’s in his mid-20s and lives in his own home.

He is autistic and has a learning disability, but that doesn’t stop him from living a full and active life. He continues to do amazing things, like running the London Marathon in under 5 hours and raising over £3,400 for a local Tea Room, where he also volunteers. He even went on the radio to talk about it, which was a huge deal for him as he has a stutter and can find speaking tricky sometimes.

This gentleman is super into running (he’s part of a local club and regularly does 5Ks), woodwork (he’s got his own shed and makes bird boxes and candles to sell at craft fairs), and cooking (he loves live cook-along). He also enjoys long walks with his dog and spending time with his family, especially his mum, who lives nearby and is a big part of his life.

We’re not looking for someone to take over, he is very independent. What he needs is someone to be around, give him gentle reminders (like taking his vitamins or having a shower), and help him stay on top of things like checking his medication.

The job looks like this:

  • You will work either 9am–5pm (4 days a week) and/or 5pm–10pm with a sleep-in until 9am.
  • No support needed between 9am–5pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Every other weekend off.
  • If you do a sleep-in, you’ll stay until he heads to work (between 8–9am) or until the next staff member arrives.

You must have a car and be happy to use it for work (we’ll cover mileage). If you’re into running or just enjoy being active, that’s a big plus, he would love to share that passion with someone.

This isn’t just a job; it’s a chance to support someone who’s doing amazing things and just needs a bit of help along the way.

Sound like your kind of role. Get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.
